February Members-Only Workshop - Wheel-Throwing: Basic Wet-Clay Work – Thursday, February 27, 5:30–7:30 pm
This Members-Only Workshop is going to be a 2-hour intensive introduction to or refresher of wheel skills. We have had more than one member ask about the chance to brush up on their wheel-throwing knowledge or get a taste of throwing without committing to an entire multi-week class, and we are happy to oblige! Join Studio Manager, Jennifer Delare, on Thursday, February 27, from 5:30–7:30 pm, to go over the basics and “get back in shape” to play with the wheel on your own! The focus of this session will be running through all of the first steps, from centering and coning up to sinking the hole, creating the floor and pulling up. We will all be trying our hand at making small-to-medium-sized beginner-friendly bowls with generous bottoms for making good feet, so we will also work on creating a nice curve depending on the bowl’s intended use and finishing your rim so that it can better resist chipping and getting your piece safely onto your shelf to dry. Only 8 spots are available in this workshop, so claim yours now!
First-time wheel-throwers welcome!
Please bring your own bag of clay to use, since we will also talk about methods to help you save as much of your clay as possible from going into scrap or the slurry bucket when you’re working on the wheel.
